What kind of material is the planter made of? While this might seem silly to some, the composition of the planter is quite important. The materials can make a lot of difference when it comes to the best and cheapest price which makes a big difference if you are on a tight budget! More expensive luxury stone planters are those that are either cast or made of pure stone, either way they are expensive and require special treatment such as a dolly to move them.

Porous or Non Porous

You also need to take the containers material into construction when you want to conserve more water. Plastic, by nature, is non porous so you will not have problems with plastic planters in the heat of summer. As long as you water frequently, these are no fuss containers and do not breathe.
Clay planters as well as terracotta planters are the opposite. They are made of clay and are porous which means they let air pass freely through them, to a certain extent.

This should be taken into consideration if you live in a climate that experiences very cold weather or even freezing temperatures.

Weight

You certainly do not want a planter that weighs more than you do if you plan on rearranging your container garden planters every season. Stone, cast stone and cements are extremely heavy and will definitely require more assistance if you want to move them.
